Christmas presents – the personal touch

In the past I’ve got stuck in a rut when it comes to buying Christmas presents for my family. I’d buy my dad a smellies set, a stripe polo neck t-shirt and some handkerchiefs. My brother would get some crazy socks chosen by the boys and my mum would get something with horses on and a bath/ pamper set. It was the same every year and I’m sure they loved the presents  but I felt like the personal touch was missing.

Last year I decided to create  gift box full of items that were more personalised to the recipient rather than the same old boring stuff. I’d put in some items or brands that I’d tried or heard rave reviews about and thought were ideal for the person in question and they seem to go down so much better than the uninspired gifts I’d given in the past.

I thought I’d try to put together some products that would be great to put  in a gift box for your loved ones and friends this Christmas. By making up a gift box you can select items you know will put a huge smile on the faces of your favourite people.

Some people love trying out new makeup, skin care and discover new brands so Christmas is an ideal opportunity to do this. Why not buy some mini size items from a higher end brand like Urban Decay.  Travel size products are cheaper and are a perfect way of exploring brands and their products on a budget.

Teenagers are tricky to buy for in general. It’s not wise to buy them clothing without them being there because they have such personal style and tastes. It’s hard to correctly guess the right size, especially when sizes vary in brands.

This is what gift box is a great idea. You can personalise it  to exactly what the recipient likes and they have gone down well in the past when I’ve done them.

Teenagers love music. Most teenagers you see have got headphones on and if they are anything like my eldest son, they break them all the time so putting a pair of headphones in the gift box is a wise idea. You can tailor it to your budget from £1 headphones from Poundland (which I’ve used in the past and they are an ok quality) to £100 Beats by Dre which are a very popular, high quality brand.

Teenagers and tweens spend hours watching youtube and they love to support their favourite vloggers so these ranges from Superdrug would be ideal. Zoella and Tanya Burr  have a huge following and their products are very cute.

Soph does Nails  has recently done a collaboration with Makeup Revolution  and her glow palette would be an excellent choice to put in the gift box.

Wht not put some beauty bits in the box?! If you want to build an entire makeup collection on a budget Superdrug’s own brand MUA  have some incredible products that start at £1. Alternatively Primark have recently overhauled their make up line and the packaging, the product range itself and the quality is really good. Primark often have dupes for more expensive brands like Too Faced so I think their makeup would go down so well. What’s even better is most items are around £1/2 and palettes are no more than £6/7. Check out my post on Primark makeup dupes here –  Primark makeup and Peach palette review

Men can be really tricky to buy for and I told to get stuck in a pattern of buying the same things again and again. For their gift box focus on their interests. It doesn’t have to be serious gift so fun items such as table top table tennis sets are great.

Perhaps include a few male grooming treats aswell as a men’s face mask for a pamper session. Beard care sets are popular for the bearded man in your life and are often things men don’t buy themselves.

A bow tie and pocket square set or a nice tie would be a nice touch.

If you are on a budget Primark do some really nice Men’s fragrances for around £3.50.

They also do some fun, wacky socks aswell as things like Call of Duty, Batman and Mr Men which I haven’t seen anywhere else so I think a pack of these socks are a fun choice.

There are so many gift boxes you can create. Your kids could even make a gift box up to leave out on Christmas Eve for Santa and his reindeer’s.

Or you could do what I do and make up a Christmas Eve box for your children with Christmas pyjamas, a festive DVD to get them in the spirit. Some Christmas chocolates and drawing books, pencils and to finish it off for  a special Christmas Eve bedtime I also include a Christmas story book which we read together. My boys love these boxes and in the last few years they’ve asked me to make sure I put them together because they love it! I will do a separate post on how to make a fun Christmas Eve box in the next few days! 🎄🎅🏼

To finish off  the box include some chocolates and treats for that extra special touch. 🍫🍬🍭

You could tie a ribbon around the items that go together like makeup.  Lay tissue paper or shredded paper at the bottom of your box which offers some protection for the products and makes the box look pretty! Place your bits inside then for an extra Christmasy feel add in sparkly confetti or glitter and tie a ribbon around the box for that perfect finish by touch! 🎁
